I personally think that the South African film/ television production industry could be on the same level as the world’s top production countries like the U.S.A and England. The only thing that’s holding the South African industry back is resources, In other words money. If South Africa had as much resources as the countries I mentioned before we would one of the leading production industries, or possibly the leading industry, in the world.
Most top quality South African productions come from the above-the-line advertising campaigns. A few examples I can give you are Cell C’s “Emo Kid” advert, Clover’s “Way Better” advert and Kalahari’s “It’s A Jungle Out There” advert. At first I thought these ads were produced by overseas-based companies. I found out later through research that these ads were actually produced by South African companies. I believe these ads were so good because they had enough resources, from the clients, to produce these ads.
I’m not saying that South Africans only create good ads when the is enough financial resources, come on we are known for our raw creativity. All I’m say is that if we had enough resources, yes I’m still talking about money, and combined that with the creativity that we South Africans are known for. We would take on the leading production industries in the world. That’s all I’m saying. Verstaan?
